Do you really know anything about stainless steel?

What makes stainless steel special are two elements, chromium and nickel. Not be stainless steel without chromium, and of nickel how many, decided the status of stainless steel.

Stainless steel can maintain luster in the air, not rust, because there is a certain amount of chromium alloy element (not less than 10.5%), which can make the steel surface to form a strong oxide film insoluble in some media.

After the addition of nickel, the performance of stainless steel is further improved, in the air, water, steam, have good chemical stability, and in many kinds of acid, alkali, salt water solution also has enough stability, even in high or low temperature environment, still can maintain the advantages of its corrosion resistance.

According to the microstructure, stainless steel has martensite type, austenite type, ferrite and duplex stainless steel points. Austenite has good plasticity, low strength, toughness, easy processing and forming, and no ferromagnetism.

Austenitic stainless steel was born in Germany in 1913, has been playing the most important role in stainless steel, its production and use of about 70% of the total production and use of stainless steel. Steel is also the most, so the vast majority of stainless steel you see every day is austenitic stainless steel.

304 steel is known as austenitic stainless steel, before the Chinese national standard for 0Cr19Ni9(0Cr18Ni9), meaning Cr(chromium)19%, Ni(nickel) 9%. 0 means carbon content < = 0.07%.

The representation of The Chinese national standard, the advantage is that the elements contained in stainless steel at a glance. As for 304,301,202 and so on, that's what they call it in the United States, in Japan, but everybody's used to it now.

18-8 (nickel not less than 8) corresponds to 304 steel. 18-10 (nickel not less than 10) corresponding to 316 steel (0Cr17Ni12Mo2), is the so-called medical stainless steel.
