Do you practice an inclusive leadership?

Leadership is not a position, it is a responsibility, as Peter Drucker said. Corroborating him, I go further: leadership is not a position, it is action. And there is no gender, race, color or ethnicity. Nor does it have sexual orientation, disability, body type, age or religion.

Have you ever stopped to think about what the roles of a leader are? And, if you are a leader, do you know how to define your leadership style? I have already asked this question to 296 leaders in the four seasons of #LiderComNeivia, my conversation program with C-Level leaders, Board members and entrepreneurs, representatives of all human diversities, in total gender equality, every Tuesday and Friday, live , at 6 pm (Brazil time), on LinkedIn, Youtube and Facebook.

What are the biggest challenges you face in leading today? In this increasingly horizontal, collaborative, multiple, variable, flexible and responsible world, in constant and accelerated change, the ability to play the role of leader requires new skills.

What are these skills? In my view, vision, understanding, clarity and agility, capacity and resilience, empathy and mindfulness, context and adaptability, transparency and intuition are among these skills.

A new world calls for a new style of leadership. To solve problems in the new world it is necessary to adapt, question, understand, reflect and create.

And I usually say that a leader is the person you are. It can't be any different. Forget what they told you about separating personal life and professional life. That's not possible! Trying to do so is the shortest path to mental illness and unhappiness.

Can you be a futuristic, innovative, technological and humanitarian leader? According to Lisa Kay Solomon, these are the skills of exponential leadership. With them, you can anticipate change and make conscious choices that lead to more positive and productive futures for you, organizations, communities and the world.

And how do you become an inclusive leader? Using your humanitarian skill! First step: invest in your self-knowledge. Then exercise your humanity when you are with another human being. Respect. Be curious and interested in the unique stories, dreams and talents of the people around you. Get to know and understand people. “Everyone” does not exist! Speak each person's language.

Build an inclusive culture. Talk less, listen more: you have one mouth and two ears, use them in proportion. Have fewer “talking points” and more “listening points”. Be present in the present. After all, the present is all you have!

Empathize. Trust. Trust is the basis of everything and remember: trust is not knowing everything about someone, it is not needing to know.

Live diversity, that is, have diversity in your life. Be on purpose. How is your ikigai? Have you managed to balance your mission (what you love to do), vocation (what you do well), profession (what you earn for doing) and passion (what is good for the world)?

Build and cultivate relationships. Communicate with mindfulness, empathy and compassion. With simplicity, clarity and objectivity.

Practice what you preach. Remember: what you enable is what you promote. Inhale. Influence. Engage. Mobilize. Collaborate. Remember: you don't build a company or an area, you build a team and the team builds the company.

Don't conform, transform!

Never forget that diversity is reality, and inclusion is a choice you must make every day, until it becomes a habit. Have courage and be kind. And have dream leaders.

Furthermore, always question yourself. Use your place of power to include, with awareness and responsibility.

Live up to the trust and credibility you have.

Impact and transform reality positively, leaving the world a better place for everyone who lives after you.

Is easy? No. But it is possible. It just depends on you and it changes the world around you. It’s about believing and making it happen!
