Landscape Business Coach Vs. Landscape Business Consultant?

Landscape Business Evolution: ?? Build a values-driven, ?? profit-focused landscape business tailored ?? exactly how you envision it for greater ?? impact, growth and ??? improvement.??
If you’re thinking about reaching out for some professional help running your landscape business, you’ve probably run across a lot of landscape business consultants and a few coaches on the internet. Getting help from a person who has been where you are and has struggled with some of the same issues is a great idea and will save you tons of money and heartache. Someone who has preferably owned and managed a successful landscape business (or two or three).
But if you’re thinking about hiring a professional to help you run your landscape business, do you know the difference between a landscape business coach and a consultant?
A landscape business coach
A coach sits on your side of the field and helps you play the game to the best of your ability. They help you train and hold you accountable to the goals you want to achieve. Here’s how that translates to running a landscape business.
- Gives you entrepreneurial perspective as a basis for your business development.
- Helps you fashion your vision for your business and constructs a business development plan specifically for that vision.
- Guides you to become the leader your vision demands.
- Gives you tools that will help you systemize and continually improve your business.
- Holds you accountable for your dreams, supports your development as a leader and challenges you to achieve more than you could alone.
A landscape business consultant
The good ones play on your team. They’re accountable for results. Landscape business consultants have expertise in areas of your business that translate well from one business to another regardless of brand commitment or your unique position in your market. Typically areas of expertise are:
- Financial
- Marketing and Sales
- Systems design
- Horticulture
Which One Do You Need?
Honestly, at times I think you need both to run a successful landscape business. And that’s why at my firm we offer both. We combine the curiosity, caring and challenging accountability of coaching with the more technical consulting side of the landscape business, such as horticultural sciences, sales and marketing, finance, management and leadership strategies.
If you’re trying to decide which service you need right now, here’s a great way to look at it.
A coach is like a partner and a consultant is more of a technical specialist.
When thinking about who you need to hire, keep these questions in mind:
- Is it a technical issue you need help with?
- Do you need knowledgeable support?
- What are the results you’re seeking to achieve?
The best time to get started on your strategic thinking and business development plan are always, now!
During this winter we are running webinars that will introduce our coaching philosophies and offer peer group coaching with very specific attainable business development goals. The webinar takes about an hour and will give you the information you’ll need to determine if peer group coaching is for you. Peer group coaching costs a fraction of one on one coaching and our peer groups guarantee results.

We’ll be running webinars until our groups are full. There will only be 6 people to a group and a limited number of groups starting this winter.
If the group thing is too groupy, we offer a free coaching consultation to prospective clients. During the session, we’ll ask questions that probe the essence of your difficulties in managing and leading your business. At the end of the session, we usually have a pretty good idea if we can help through coaching or more specific consulting services.
