Do you need experience in construction to remodel your rental property??

In the past, I thought home builders and people who had a lot of experience in construction were the only ones who should engage in the task of remodeling. Not so anymore. If you are handy at all, chances are you can do all the work required yourself. If not, be sure to watch very closely who you enlist to do the work for you. Keep an eye on the purchasing of all materials and keep good records on the progress. Then you can still make a good profit on your investment. The key is time. The longer it takes the more expense involved. Be sure to check out the people you hire, asking for references from other jobs. Talk to the people they have worked for in the past and find out if they were slow or quick to finish their job. Keep a checklist on everything. For instance, don't have a plumber standing around when your not ready for him. Find out what is to be done each day so you can have the right people there. Finally, check daily to see that everything was done properly before you bring in the crew for the next day's events. If you wait, you may have to tear out something you don't like or that doesn't fit. This can mean more time and money.
