Do You Miss SKO's of the Past?

Chances are, you are doing your Sales Kickoff this year virtually. Which got me wondering, how was YOUR sales kickoff this year? In years past, most of us would fly to Vegas, Orlando, New Orleans, or some other destinations. We would spend a good part of the week sitting in a large conference room, eating in a banquet room, and staying up way too late interacting with our fellow sales teammates from around the U.S. and the world.
But times have changed. Many of us, this year, watched our SKO's from home. How different was that experience for you? Did it leave you inspired to run through a wall? Or was it like watching one long commercial? Were the presentations as meaningful as they would be if you were there participating in them live? Or would you rather be kicking back with a cup of coffee at home listening on your laptop?
Share your thoughts. It will be interesting to hear everyone's experience, if your company was really able to move to a virtual event, when in the past, being all together was something that we probably took for granted.

3 年John, great article and questions. Covid-SKOs are bittersweet for sure. On one hand, I appreciate the anti-hustle and bustle that comes with being at home instead of Vegas or some other big SKO city. Not booking travel. Not having to deal with airports. Not worrying about per diem and expenses, but even more so.... The fresh coffee just steps away. The family in the other room for wholesome breaks. Clocking out at the end of the day and playing with my son, Luke, after school. Rest is essential. There is no better life. On the other hand, there is no substitute being live with peers. Hands-on, in-your-face training. Getting to know your leaders personally. Asking questions live. Getting to know your fellow teammates over drinks. The stimulation of a different context and big city. And of course, there's always one person who does something stupid that becomes a good story for the history books. In short, I suppose the break of big city after big city, year after year is nice, but it will also be great to travel again (soon I hope) and connect with others. The human spirit, I believe, needs others. We need each other. Not just virtually. Together, we are good for the heart, and the heart is good for business.
