Sometimes I wonder, does everyone love their job as much I love mine?
Every time I stand within a beautifully interactive brand experience that my fabulous team and I have conjured up from what would appear to be thin air, I fall deeply, madly and truly in love once again with my chosen profession.
We pitch a lot, and this means we get to exercise our creative muscles even when they are screaming with fatigue and artistic block. We get many a regret sometimes when we have put forward our most exciting creative response. But we win a lot too, due to the sheer amount of pitching that we do.
Yet despite the mixed bag of Yeses and Nos that we get, the unforgiving 4am slog we endure, as well as the long hours, and back breaking tenacity a creative idea needs to finally be nurtured into presentable shape, I always look forward, eagerly, to the next pitch. The oft-times blank silences on zoom as we present valiantly to pin drop silence and the vague regret letters have yet to dampen our excitement and enthusiasm when it comes to birthing new experiential ideas. Not once have I felt like I can’t go on.
The life in a creative agency is not for the faint hearted. But the adrenalin rush that us old hands at this creative game hunger for can never be replaced with any other feeling. Work simply never feels like work; makes us seem like workaholics, but we are just in love with our vocation. Each time, without fail, when faced with a new brief, I feel an excitement bubbling in my heart of hearts. Sometimes the rejection of our beautifully crafted concepts sparks a tenacity to prove them wrong. Rejected ideas have gone on to win awards when another more adventurous corporate bravely gives it a go and gets a magical reaction in the market place. Those are my most satisfying moments of all.
There are those who just want to finish whatever they have on their plate and log off. Those who feel a sense of dread when Monday comes around. I wish you could taste just a tiny drop of the deliciousness doing what you love delivers on a daily.

I do understand, that not everyone has the privilege of doing what they love right now, but I pray you will find a way to move on quickly from what you must to what you yearn for. Life is far too short to be miserable or bored or both for the rather ?large span of the time you spend awake working. You deserve to have a job that taps into your passions, that brings you joy and that fulfills you -- for the most part, anyway.
As this month of lurve rolls in, I’d like to wish you my fellow Human the deepest love and happiness in your daily grind. Every one of us deserves to do what we love, if not now, then soon. May you find your calling, that thing that helps your soul leap for joy whenever you face it.
In the succinct words of the great oracle of overachievers, Warren Buffet, "There comes a time when you ought to start doing what you want. Take a job that you love. You will jump out of bed in the morning. I think you are out of your mind if you keep taking jobs that you don't like because you think it will look good on your resume. Isn't that a little like saving up s*x for your old age?"
Well!!!
