A young violinist auditions for a great master, plays really well, and then asks for feedback. The great master sadly says "You lack fire". Based on such feedback, the violinist abandons music and becomes a rich businessman. He bumps into the master years later, and asks - "How did you know I had no fire in music ? ". I hired several people in the past who did not have sufficient experience but have shown an exceptional passion for our profession. All of them did great.

There was one case, particularly noteworthy.

A recruiter called me once and said that he knows I have been looking for a while for a product manager with specific knowledge. The recruiter said the candidate does not have experience, but instead has an incredible passion.

I interviewed her, and indeed, she really loved product management so much that she had learned it on her own, and her knowledge far surpassed what I expected.

She progressed very quickly, and now heads up product management at a large Internet company.

All we need is love. The rest will follow.
