Dear Friends,
We are starting this year on a very spiritual note.
Before Jesus concluded His earthly ministry, He made a profound declaration to Peter: “You are Peter, and on this rock, I will build my church” (Matthew 16:18).
This statement marked Peter's appointment as a foundational leader of the Church.
Yet, shortly after this moment, Peter faltered. During the pre-crucifixion period, he denied Jesus three times out of fear. Even after Jesus’ resurrection, during a critical and precarious time, Peter abandoned the disciples entrusted to him and returned to fishing.
When Jesus appeared on the shore, Peter, overcome with shame, jumped into the water to avoid facing Him.
In His loving kindness, Jesus shared a meal with Peter and the other disciples.
But Jesus needed more than fellowship.
He sought a renewed commitment of loyalty from Peter.
He asked, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” (John 21:15).
It’s clear that Peter loved Jesus, but Jesus wanted to probe the depth of that love.
The degree of love matters, especially when it’s put to the test.
If you’re offered a bribe to secure admission or a contract, do you love God enough to say “No”?
If you face pressure to compromise sexually or risk losing your job, do you love God enough to stand firm?
If provoked to lose your temper, do you love God enough to keep your calm?
For Peter, the “these” referred to his fishing nets and boat; his livelihood and comfort zone.
He loved them so much that they distracted him from his divine mission.
What is your “these”?
Is it wealth, ambition, relationships, or personal comfort?
Reflect on what might be competing with your love for God.
Let our prayer today be:
"Lord, increase my love for You.
Help me to place You above all else, so I may stand firm and resist compromise."
Without this prayer and commitment, compromise will always lurk close by.
Till I write to you again
Remain Inspired,
Inspirationally yours
