Do you like unique experiences?

I do. Especially when I'm traveling. I want an experience that will build memories, make me fill whole again, and leave me feeling like my travel funds were well invested.

I have always been attracted to hotels and destinations that are a little bit different, maybe off the beaten path. Or even a diamond in the rough amid the rest in an urban area. That's what drew me to the conference I just attended featuring independent hotels. I learned so much about new properties and destinations that I wasn't aware of before. This was so exciting since I love featuring these types of properties in my travel business.

One of the great things about independents is that they can make magic happen. Often times in a large chain, staff are not empowered to make things happen for you, or to cut through the tiered protocol or processes to think and work outside of the box. Independent hotels don't have a box.

Another benefit is that they are generally a smaller, boutique property. This lends itself to peacefulness, great customer service and customization. When I book an independent hotel for a client, this allows me to become a miracle worker. I can make all the special requests come true. I can make it a trip that is not only memorable, but one that all others in the future will be measured against.

I think that's the way we should run our businesses also. We should find a way to give our clients what their hearts desire. We need to be their heroes in shining armor. That's why I prefer to book my clients in those special destinations, those special boutique hotels, with a special itinerary that checks all the boxes.
