I have noticed that wanting to be in control is mostly because we are afraid. Often there are lots of reasonable explanations for why it’s important we are in control. But if you dig a little, you will discover something that is fear-based.

We fear what might happen if we are not in control.

We fear what might not happen if we are not in control.

?

It’s exhausting try be in control of it all.

?

We tell ourselves it’s better when we are in control.

That we are sacrificing ourselves for the good of it all, by working hard to control it.

?

But flow and expansion doesn’t need to be controlled. In fact, when you control they cannot happen.

?

And people don’t show up as their best selves when they are controlled. A human at their best will bring you magic that you can never have if you try to control how them.

In our current world of work, we have created so many checks and balances to control everything. To measure and check. The be able to know exactly what outcomes we get.

This way is driven by fear.

By fearing we are not good enough.

By fearing we cannot trust others, that we cannot trust life, that we need to take charge or else...

?

We have good reasons for wanting to be in control. And we get a lot from this approach. It will just never be our best. Or anyone else’s best.

So ask yourself now:

• If I didn't have to control everything so hard, what might I need to believe?
• If I believed that extraordinary success would be possible without me trying to control everything, how would I show up?

Allow yourself to contemplate this for more than a moment.
