WEEKEND WISEUP! Each weekend we want to bring a topic for discussion to help you grow your business!
This week is all about
??SWIPE AND DEPLOY!??
Do you have a swipe and deploy file of what other brands are doing that you can learn from?
?No this is not about copying, ?it’s about learning!
What ever your product, there are large brands out there doing amazing things and are very successful and that means they generally have HUGE marketing budgets and teams.
As small business owners it’s easy to look in and think ‘it’s ok for them’
But the smart business owners will look at them and watch their every move and learn from what they are doing.
Here’s an example
Gordon’s Gin
Gordon’s Pink Gin ( according to Gin Foundry ) was quite possibly the best selling gin of last year
?? Have now launched Sicilian Lemon ?? - which they expect to do even better
?So are you watching this launch in detail, what marketing are they producing, how are they building hype, how are they communicating with their customers to get the message out.?
A number of years ago We worked with a small camping and outdoor equipment business and quite close to him, a large ‘Go Outdoors’ store opened. When we worked with him, we asked him about the store and what he knew about it. His reply, ‘I’ve never been in, I’m boycotting it!’
We were astounded and explained to him how he was seeing it all wrong and while yes, he may not like some of their practices, they were his biggest source of learning.
After some persuasion, we encouraged him to walk their store to learn from their merchandising, sign up to their newsletter to learn from their marketing and offers, follow them on all their social media channels to see their campaigns. This was as we said earlier, not to copy but to learn and one thing is for sure, Go Outdoors had a MUCH bigger marketing budget that he did.
So here’s a few ideas for you
? Follow large brands on all their social media channels, but have it set so you get notifications when they post. That way you get alerted and can see what campaigns are happening and when
? Sign up to newsletters, VIP clubs and more so you get a feel for how they run campaigns
? Engage in any promotions large brands are doing so you get a feel from a consumers perspective
? See how they are promoting themselves physically in bars, supermarkets etc. It’s easy to stop seeing but when you are actively looking for campaigns, it’s surprising what pops out
Let me know your thoughts on this, do you have a ‘Swipe and Deploy’ tactic and what else you are doing to follow big brands and learn from them
And if the need help with marketing and growing your brand, get in touch and let’s have a chat.
