DO YOU KNOW YOURSELF?

DO YOU KNOW YOURSELF?

Friends,

?

Hello!? I hope you’re having an incredible day thus far!

?

In the first article I posted this year, I offered direction for those who start the year by delineating a purpose, developing resolutions, or defining a word to maintain focus.? Here’s that direction again, packaged differently.

?

2025 is the year to find and thrive in your lane.

?

Today, I’m building on the previous conversation.? Starting with your lane seems like the logical next step, but it’s not.? Taking that path is the equivalent of jumping in the shower without removing your clothes first.

?

To find your lane, you must know yourself.? That’s the first priority.? It’s the task with utmost importance.? So, I’ll ask:

?

Do you know yourself?

?

I’m not asking if you know your current responsibilities.? I’m not inquiring about your salary or bonus potential.? I’m not even referring to the company you own, lead, or are employed by or retired from.?

?

I’m asking about you, the individual.

?

This is an uncomfortable topic at times, especially for those who embrace the humble road, yet it causes the greatest “ripples in the lake” that is your life.? Finding a lane without knowing yourself is like jumping off a cliff without a parachute.

?

Once again, do you know yourself?? Do you really know yourself? Where would your answer begin?

?

Your name?

Your education?

Your relevant experiences?

Your career aspirations?

?

Responding to those questions definitely gets the ball rolling, but I challenge you to zoom out further.? Let’s start with this question.

?

Where are you really from?

?

By inserting the word really, I’m also telling you that you’re not from your hometown.? Case and point.? DC Comic’s Superman landed in Smallville, Kansas, but he was from Krypton.? In Krypton, his superhero characteristics were the norm, not the exception.

?

The same is true for you.? While you have a hometown, it’s not your origin.? Whether you realize it or not, you’re from God, and He included the ability to dominate in your characteristics.?

If you read any of my other articles, you’ll quickly see that I’m a fan of the Bible.? Shameless plug: I’ve found that it contains the answers to all my questions.? It’s also how I know that none of us are from the physical city listed on our birth certificates.

?

Speaking of the Bible, this verse reinforces your origin and the dominating nature you received:

?

Then God said, “And now we will make human beings; they will be like us and resemble us. They will have power over the fish, the birds, and all animals, domestic and wild, large and small” (Genesis 1:26, GNT).

?

When God made you like and resembling Himself, He included the ability to dominate.? I don’t mean like a dictator or someone who exploits others.? In this context, think of dominating like you would in a sport.? A dominant athlete is usually the best or among the best.

?

As you unpack who you are, think about this.? Are you currently dominating?? Are you the best at what you do?? If the answer is yes, then try these follow-up questions:?

?

Are you the best of the best at what you do??

Have you maximized your potential?

Do you have opportunities each day to showcase the best of your abilities?

?

If you’re not dominating at the moment, don't worry.? Here are some questions worth your consideration:

?

In what ways have you been the best in the past?

If you maximized this same skillset (in which you were the best) now, what would it look like?

What opportunities are available for you to showcase this skillset more consistently?

?

Over the next few articles, I’ll share some specific areas of dominance God gave humans to help you keep exploring yourself.? If this seems like a journey you want to take with more precise guidance, reach out to me at [email protected] and let’s have a focused conversation around getting to the real you.
