Do you know why you're even on LinkedIn?

Do you know why you're even on LinkedIn?

You’re on LinkedIn.

You’re posting.

You’re commenting.

You’re connecting.

But—why?

Why are you here?

Because if you don’t know the answer to that question, you’re just wasting your frigging time.

There’s this story we’re all sold - “You need to be on LinkedIn.”

We hear it from mentors, coaches, well meaning friends.

So we show up.

We hit post, we follow the “rules,” and "ultimate formulas" and we keep showing up because that’s what we’re told to do.

But if you don’t have a real reason for being here, none of it matters.

You’re not building a brand, you’re just making noise.

And in the end, noise fades away.

It gets lost.

Let’s stop pretending like LinkedIn is this magical place where the answers will just fall into your lap because you’ve posted for the 50th time this month.

That’s not how this works - I wish it bloody was!

You don’t get to skip the deep work, the clarity, the purpose behind it all.

Without that foundation, nothing you do here will make a real impact.

So why are you really here?

Are you here because:

  • Someone told you it was the next step in "uplevel" your business and so you’re here to just “do the thing”?
  • Are you here to hit some arbitrary milestone —1000 followers, 5000 views, a viral post?
  • Are you here because you think you have to “sell” something, but you’re not even sure what that something is or why you (or your audience) give a shit about it?

If any of that rings true, then you’re definitely not showing up for the right reasons.

Here’s the harsh truth

If your reason for showing up on LinkedIn isn’t rooted in something bigger than yourself, you’re never going to feel fulfilled here.

If your presence here is about chasing vanity metrics or playing a game of post, like, repeat —that’s not going to bring you lasting success.

That’s why, with every client I work with, the first question I ask is ...

“Why are you even here?”

If they say, “I don’t know,” or, “Because someone told me I should be,” I cringe.

That’s the same as saying, “I go to the gym because I’m supposed to.”

We both know how that ends.

Eventually the motivation fades.

You stop showing up.

You stop caring.

And in your head the little voice is whispering: "You never bloody wanted to do this in the first place!"

If you’re here because someone else said it’s what you need to do, or because you’re chasing numbers — that’s the first red flag.

You need a deeper reason to show up here every single day.

You need to understand and get to the core of - why LinkedIn matters to you and the people you’re here to serve.

Let’s break this down

  • Why did you start a LinkedIn account in the first place? Was it because you saw a real opportunity to connect with people who believe what you believe? Was it to build a legacy, a message that resonates deeply with the people who need it most? Or was it just because you thought “everyone else is doing it”?
  • What do you actually want to create here? Is LinkedIn the place where you’re going to make an impact, share your deepest thoughts, challenge ideas, create real conversations? Or are you just posting because that’s what you’re “supposed to” do as a “personal brand”?
  • Who are you here for? Are you here to build connections that matter, the kind that challenge you and make you grow? Or are you here for the easy sell — the one that looks good in the short term but leaves you empty?

If you don’t have answers to these questions, then you’re lost.

And when you’re lost, you start following what everyone else is doing.

You mimic their posts, try to sound like them, but at the end of the day, you’re just another voice in a sea of noise.

This is the starting point for every single one of my clients

Before we even talk about content strategy or how to grow your audience, I ask: “Why are you here?”

Because if you don’t know why, then nothing else will work.

You can have the perfect post, the perfect timing, the perfect strategy — but without purpose, it’s all empty.

If you don’t know why you’re here, you’re just playing a game. It’s like you’re going through the motions, showing up because you feel like you should, hoping that somehow, the “right people” will find you.

But it doesn’t work that way.

Not long-term.

You need to have a f*cking word with yourself and be brutally honest.

Why are you actually here?

What’s driving you?

Because once you know that, everything shifts.

Your message gets clearer. Your content flows from a place of true realness — not the kind that’s trendy or perfect, but the kind that resonates with your soul. And that’s how you build a personal brand that lasts.

So when you do know why you’re here

  • You’ll stop chasing likes and comments and start building meaningful connections.
  • You’ll stop posting just to post. You’ll share ideas that matter, conversations that challenge the status quo, and stories that stir the people who need to hear them.
  • You’ll stop worrying about the “right” way to do things and instead focus on doing what feels real and impactful to you.
  • You’ll realise that LinkedIn is not a tool for validation, but a platform for creating something that changes the way people think and act. You won’t be here just for the followers. You’ll be here for the impact.

The truth is ...

You’re here to do more than just “build your brand” or “get noticed.”

You’re here to make a DIFFERENCE.

You’re here to impact people, to inspire, to challenge, to spark real conversation.

If you don’t have that deeper reason for showing up, you’re going to get lost in the noise.

And let’s be real - No one is sitting around waiting for your “perfect” post.

They’re waiting for your truth.

The real, messy, raw TRUTH that comes from knowing exactly why you’re showing up here in the first place.

So why are you really here?

Once you know that answer, you’ll have the foundation for everything else.

Your posts will mean something.

Your connections will matter.

And you’ll show up every day with a purpose that goes far beyond just trying to fit in.

And when you know that purpose, everything else will fall into place.
