Do you know why 'Nothing will make YOU happy?'
Abhinav Bindra, recommends a video called?‘Nothing Can Make You Happy’?by Rupert Spira.
In that video Rupert says, fundamentally, happiness is a constant. As a child, if you get a toy, you are happy. When you grow up and you buy a house, you are happy.
1. He says the happiness that you experience in both those instances, with a toy or a house, is the same. It is not qualitatively different.
2. Secondly, he says that happiness is like the blue sky that is always there. It is you who are handing over your happiness to the presence of clouds.
When the clouds are present, you are scared for you know they will soon go away.
If the clouds are not there you lament that other places have clouds, why you don’t have it?
The SKY represents acceptance.
The CLOUDS represent possessions.
Clouds come and go. Things come and go. People come and go. The skies always remain.
3. The third thing he says is that think of the things that make you unhappy. Ask yourself is the situation really so bad?
How to know if the situation is really bad? Well, is there anyone in the world who is going through worse yet ‘not so unhappy’?
If the answer is, ‘Yes, there are many people who are facing WORSE situations yet managing well’, then, it is not the situation that is making me unhappy. I am making myself ‘unhappy’.
Dear Reader,
What is your idea of happiness?
What makes you lose your happiness?
How do you regain it back?
Does it take long?
Would love to know your thoughts.
Happily Yours

1 年Such a beautiful LSM! Happiness according to me a choice and like you mentioned - constant like the sky. When we hand it over to inconstant things like (clouds in this case), we depend on the external factors for happiness which may or may not make us happy. Although it is easier said than done; practising to look at happiness as the sky and not clouds is the key. Low self esteem, rejection takes my happiness away. But the minute I think of my potential, my learnings from life school, people who back me, encourage me; I become normal. Thank you for sharing this one Sir.

1 年Gratitude is the key. Irrespective of the situation being good or bad, just like the clouds, they pass.

1 年I think its very subjective. We belong to a cultural thought process which prefers contentment over happiness. Off late we can see there seems to be induced attempts to score happiness as primary reason to do something.. however, great articulation as always by Narendra Goidani ..
