Popular Types
125 Khz Chips - HID Prox, EM4200, PAC, Paxton
Proximity cards (or Prox cards as they are known) are available with frequencies of 125kHz and UHF varieties. “Prox” cards have a read range of approximately 5 inches and operate at a frequency of 125khz.
13.56 Mhz Contactless Chips - MIFARE, DESfire, HID iClass
Contactless smart cards use radio frequency (RF) technology to interact with a reader. Each card has an antenna embedded inside the card that enables communication with the reader without physical contact.
Contact Chip - Infineon SLE, NXP JCOP, HID Crescendo
These are normally used as memory or microprocessor chips. EMV Payment systems or PC log on facilities are a popular use for these types of cards.
