Do you know where your business will be in 6 years time?

I wouldn’t necessarily expect you to say YES to this question but it’s great if you can.
If you know where you want your business to be in 6 years, you can make all the right decisions to get you there.
When I first started working in Private Equity, I was told that I needed to create a vision for each one of my businesses.???
But this wasn’t any old vision, this was a 7 year vision, for each and every business.
At first the concept blew my mind but as I got used to creating these exciting, audacious visions, everything started to fall into place.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again - running your business without a strategy or vision is like jumping in a car and driving it without having a destination in mind.

Which way do you turn at the business traffic lights?
Your vision or strategy isn’t just for your benefit, it is also a critical communication tool for your customers, employees and investors.??

?? Imagine being an employee coming, to work everyday and not knowing if what you were doing was making a contribution to the end goal or not - because no one had told you what that end goal was.
?? Imagine being a customer and your supplier asks you to sign a multiyear deal, you’d want to know first what your supplier’s plans were for the future before you agreed to commit.
?? Imagine being asked to invest in a company without having a clear vision of what the future would look like.
Imagine trying to run a business without a vision… it doesn’t bear thinking about, does it?

8 个月Such a great reminder TIm. In Leadership language, we call this Clarity of Direction, when you have your Strategic Intent, you then need to Unify Purpose ie share the vision in many different ways so people are clear of their role in the vision and to bring it to life, some leaders get their vision and then when they've shared it once, it can not be mentioned after that. Frustrations then arise as people don't remember where they are going. If you get all of this right, the levels of determination rise and you have a higher chance of reaching that destination. Clarity of Direction is one of the key elements in the Resilient Leaders Elements Framework and a great tool for leaders to develop their leadership muscle, just incase this can help your clients Tim.

Running a business without a clear strategy or vision is akin to sailing without a compass or navigating without a map--it's directionless and uncertain.?Just like a destination gives purpose to a journey, a clear vision gives purpose to a business.
