I once asked a friend if she knew when she was hungry and she could not tell me. She did not become aware of her feeling of hunger until years after that conversation.
It is not something many people think about as being important. You may notice that you are light headed or that everyone is leaving the office for lunch. You may look at the clock and consider it is time for dinner.
If you have ever had health issues related to your blood sugar, digestion or weight, you may be more aware of when to eat and what to eat. Your doctor may have recommended a diet to follow.
When you are aware of your feelings of hunger, your journey of self awareness has begun. You are thinking about how you feel at that moment and are motivated to do something about it. Your body has signaled you to take action.
You can begin the practice of self awareness every morning before you get out of bed. Once you are awake, try to stretch a little in bed. You will know if any part of your body is more stiff than usual. You may notice if your head hurts or you still feel tired after 8 or mote hours of sleep.
Once you begin this routine of checking in daily on how you feel before you even get out of bed, your day will be different. You are already providing yourself with information on what your body needs for that day.
It may be more water or extra protein for energy. You may need further stretching to move more freely. You will also know when you are hungry or just bored.
Check in with yourself each morning and be ready for a more productive day as a result of doing so.
