Do you know WDM module?

WDM module is a kind of optical module which transmits the optical signals with different wavelength through WDM. WDM module (also known as color optical module) is a photoelectric converter in the optical complex transmission link. It adopts the wave division multiplexing technology to transmit the optical signals of different wavelengths in a single optical fiber, which has the advantages of low cost.

Characteristics of the WDM module

1. Flexible design;

2. High reliability;

3. Low power consumption;

4. Support hot plug;

5. LC duplex interface;

6. Commercial operating temperature: 0℃-70℃, industrial operating temperature: -40℃-85℃;

7. The maximum transmission distance can reach 130km;

8. Support digital diagnosis (DDM/DOM) function;

9. It conforms to multi-protocol standards, such as SFP MSA protocol, SDH/SONET transmission standard, IEEE 802.3 Ethernet standard and rohs-6 standard.

10. The CWDM module can provide 18 wavelengths (1270nm~1610nm).

11. DWDM wavelength division module supports c-band wavelength.

Application of WDM module

1. Fiber to home (FTTH);

2. Campus network;

3. Data center;

4. Metropolitan area network;

5. Local area network (LAN);

6. Ethernet (such as fast Ethernet, gigabit Ethernet, etc.);

7. Optical fiber channels (such as 1G, 2G and other optical fiber channels);

8. Synchronous optical fiber network (SONET oc-3, oc-12, oc-48, etc.);

9. Optical synchronous digital transmission network;

10. Security system;

11. Optical transmission equipment.

Classification of WDM modules

According to different packaging forms, the WDM module can be divided into XENPAK WDM module, X2 WDM module, GBIC WDM module, XFP WDM module, SFP WDM module and SFP+ WDM module.

According to the difference of wavelength density, the WDM module can be divided into (coarse WDM) CWDM optical module and (dense WDM) DWDM optical module. CWDM optical module adopts rough wavelength division multiplexing (CWDM) technology, which is suitable for short distance transmission. Generally, it applies to gigabit Ethernet and point-to-point network. DWDM optical module adopts dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) technology, which is suitable for long distance transmission, and it is generally applied to metropolitan area network, LAN and other large network environments.
