Do you know the secret of success?

Do you know the secret of success?

There's something that good government leaders know that means that they're really successful at what they do, and that is that no one is an island.

That you can't get there on your own.

I work a lot with government leaders from all sorts of agencies at local, state and federal level, and I've found the ones who really succeed are the ones who serve their stakeholders and communities well.

What do they do differently?

They go with others.

They build a network, a tribe, a connection around them.

They build high-performing teams of people who love what they do and who help each other and have each other's back.

They work with their peers and their colleagues and other government departments to really make those connections, and to ensure they're not duplicating the wheel.

If you're a leader and you want to have great success, achieve your project aims and goals, get the outcomes for your stakeholders and communities that you really want, remember not to be an island.

You cannot go it alone.

Build a strong network of support around you.

Make sure that you're checking in with other agencies, other leaders, and that the work you're doing is purposeful and meaningful by adding real value, not operating in your little vacuum all in its own.
