Do you know people who talk openly about their mental health? How does this impact you?
WE ARE ALL INTO THIS TOGETHER ( Self Awareness Group )
Mental health refers to our emotional and social well-being and impacts how we think, feel, and behave. It plays a role in connecting with others, making decisions, handling stress, and many other aspects of daily life. Everyone has mental health, and it deserves your attention. just as much as your physical health does.
Stigma associated with Mental Health illness is obvious for everyone to not be so open with friends, family or within social circle. It leads to discrimination and that may be obvious and direct, or it might just be an assumption or unintentional or subtle, such as someone avoiding you just because of the sadness you bring in the room, people judge a person with mental health as unstable, violent, or aggressive in nature.
Decline comes the point when individual starts judging himself and indulge in self stigma. The less stigma and more education on health issues would result in a positive change.
Stigma and Discrimination against vulnerable is showing more of what is wrong with society and not people, who have common issues. Many people have mental illness, and you wouldn’t even realize it unless they tell you. Its hard to be expressive with your friends and family, but there comes a point when you are left no choice and ultimately one must spill out everything. There is always a breaking point for every human being and time come in intervals.
Sharing with friends and families is quite useless at times as they are in no position to accept the situation as it is, reason being they have profiled the individual with all positive and negatives and it takes few seconds to ASSUME how this guy is feeling and responding with ‘We DO UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE GOING THROUGH” which they really don’t.
I HAVE BEEN THERE
I FEEL SAME AT TIMES (You can’t sir you can’t even imagine the pain)
Everyone is unique and everyone story is different from yours. There are factors beyond human count that create an event. People try to help but not aware the damage and hurt the person. Overcome the obstacles of assumption.
The best way to talk about it is to come from a place or create a place of openness for everyone without judgment and sharing your stories with utter “STRANGER” as this stranger wouldn’t have much of the knowledge or information about your past and would least bother to judge you for that moment.
It would do wonders for combating the stigma that surrounds it. Its hard to talk about it because it is considered as TABOO. I believe we all need to see therapists or attend small support groups.
