?The detailed story of May Day can be traced back to the United States in the late 19th century. At that time, workers' working conditions were often harsh, with long hours, low wages, and a lack of safety. In order to fight for better working conditions, workers began to organize and stage protests and strikes.
In 1886, workers in Chicago launched a movement to reduce working hours to eight hours a day, which became known as the "Eight-Hour Day Movement." The climax of this movement was the Massacre on May 4, 1886, when thousands of workers held a rally demanding the implementation of an eight-hour working day, but the police suppressed it, resulting in many deaths and injuries. This tragedy shocked the world and became an important turning point in the international workers' movement.
In order to commemorate this tragedy and support the labor movement, in 1889, the Second International decided at a meeting in Paris to designate May 1st each year as International Labor Day. This decision was supported by the working class around the world, and May Day has since become a symbol of the global working class's solidarity in fighting for their rights.
The story of May Day reflects the sacrifices and efforts made by the working class for better working conditions, and also demonstrates the spirit of unity and struggle. This festival not only commemorates historical struggles, but also calls on all sectors of society to pay attention to and respect the rights and interests of workers.
