Introduction
Do you have a set of instructions, for each product, for how to measure your IBM license? If you don't then there is a high risk that your IBM license measurement is not being done consistently. There may also be a serious compliance risk juts waiting to surface when you get an IBM audit.
Develop measurement instructions
You need to develop a set of measurement instructions for each of your IBM products.
This is especially important for IBM products not measured by BigFix or ILMT which rely on manual collection. E.g. Authorised User, capacity, # of records, etc
Draw up a set of instructions for how to measure the license usage (deployment) of each of your IBM products.? I recommend keeping the instructions in an excel workbook so you can store the sheet to be filled with the instructions for ease of circulation.??

The instructions should be simple to follow for any member of your team. IBM license knowledge should not be a prerequisite. This will force you to make the instructions simple to follow.? Lots of screen shots.? Contact details of anyone you may need to contact. URLs, samples and links to supporting documents.
If you have outsourced IBM license management get your outsourcer to provide you with the instructions so you can verify.? This applies to IASP also.
If you don't know how to measure a particular IBM product get a license expert to provide a standard set of instructions and you can then add any organisation specific detail yourself.
Unless it’s at the start of an IBM ELA I would avoid asking your IBM Account Manager for these instructions, you don’t want to trigger an audit.
Conclusion
Having the instructions to measure your usage of IBM products written up ensures consistency and also avoids the need for an expert to do the job every time. It also speeds up the process and allows you to assign to more junior staff over time.
