Do You Know ESOP People?

Have you loved working at an ESOP, Benefit Corporation, or cooperative? If so,why?

I'm hoping to interview people who have worked at an Employee Stock Option Program, a democratic worker-owned company structure, or a cooperative in order to find out WHY they're so special. In particular, what makes the "employees" (owners, participants, etc.) so darned happy?  Is it feeling that you're part of the solution? Or, is it the intense communication that goes on between workers? HR folks from ESOP companies, why is your retention rate so high? Is recruiting easier? Should we all "Go ESOP or go home?"
