LinkedIn now has about 740 million members with over 55 million registered companies. Of those, 40% are active, ie. they access it on a daily basis.
While about 40% are active, but most people don’t know the difference between Writing a ‘POST’ and Publishing an ‘ARTICLE’
1. While LinkedIn Posts are limited to 1,300 characters, LinkedIn Articles can be up to 125,000 characters in length, which gives you more opportunity to showcase your expertise and knowledge. Characters: means your punctuation ( ,.?/-_``! @ # $ % ^ & *( ) etc and spaces are also counted). In other words, a Post is a snap-shot, whereas an Article is a lengthy read.
2. A Post and is usually written from a personal perspective based on opinion, can include facts, information or personal experience. An article is typically written to convey facts, information, news and unbiased perspective. It is generally more detailed information.
3. A Post can be a ‘Share’, or ‘Copy-paste’ , whereas an Article must be an original. Your thoughts, your experiences, your story, backed with some facts & data.
4. An Article is created via LinkedIn's Pulse Publishing. It comes equipped with some basic editing tools, lets you include a large Headline, a separate section for body, and the insertion of media (an image, video, slides, links or snippets) at the start of each new paragraph. A Post only allows for a short paragraph along with images (max 9 of them).
5. Posts get shown quickly and are then buried under a deluge of new ones. Whereas Articles will be easier to find by people who read your profile, even after a few years. They stay in your profile unless you choose to delete them.
6. A Post gets you instant visibility, whereas an Article gets you long-term credibility.
So next time please think whether you are writing a Post or an Article?!?.
Hope this was helpful.
