Do you keep New Year resolutions?

Today, December 1, 2019, I'm starting my new year resolutions for 2020!
Forget keeping New Year resolutions - usually I don't even make them. The reason I don't make new year resolutions is probably because I think I'll not keep them. What if I lose steam when the new year doesn't feel new anymore? I don't want to just go through the ritual just to give up and forget about it later.
This time is going to be different. To overcome the possibility of fading motivation, I am going to take a leaf from the great American athlete, Jesse Owens' book. During the 1936 Berlin Olympics, he followed his German competitor Luz Long's advice to make a mark several inches from the takeoff board to avoid fouling in the long jump event (Owens went on to win gold). Similarly, I am going to begin my new year resolutions for 2020 today, December 1, 2019. By keeping the resolutions through the holiday season, I will have weathered several challenges and warmed up by the time 2020 actually rolls in.
What are my new year resolutions?
- Do not drink more than one caffeinated drink per day.
- Complete an online course every six months.
- Read at least one non-fiction book every quarter.
Happy early New Year 2020, everyone!
