Do You Hear What I Mean?

Do You Hear What I Mean?

“Love is not blind - it sees more, not less. But because it sees more, it is willing to see less.” – Julius Gordon

We live in a hyper visual age. From advertising to television programming and web pages to virtual reality platforms, what we see is an enormous part of our life?experience.

But, being able to see things, how much attention do we pay to what our other four senses are communicating to us?

What if we couldn’t see?

What if we had to use those other four senses to discern experiences and develop relationships?

That is the premise behind my concept for a television show called

Blind Dates.

The format of the show is like The Dating Game meets Love Connection with an interesting and fun twist. By the way, if you are too young to remember those shows, search on YouTube to find old episodes.???

Here's how it works.

In the first half of each episode, a male or female selector contestant is introduced to the studio and home audience.

After they are introduced we meet their three potential dates who are on the other side of a partition.

The selector asks them each a few questions and then decides which of the three they will go out with.

Here’s the twist: Even after the choice is made, the two of them do not get to SEE each other.?

They go on a series of three dates and are required to wear blindfolds the entire time.?

On the second half of the show, we are shown a montage of their dating experience. Then, separately, each of them discusses their Blind Dates experiences. This interview segment includes interesting facts they learned about the other and what they think the other person looks like.

After this discussion, the party who selected their date partner is shown a lineup of three people who all have similar looks. Now that they can be seen but not heard she or he must attempt to choose the one they have been dating.?

If they choose correctly, the Blind Dates show sends them on a spectacular getaway together.?

What do you think?

Could you develop a relationship without ever seeing who you were dating?

Let me know your thoughts about this show concept in the comments.

Expert Tip

Leadership has always been important to having a successful organization. In the modern economy, it is even more so. This week's guest expert is Bret Packard who has nearly three decades of experience building leadership teams. If you are not yet following him here, I strongly recommend that you do!

Making Great Leaders

I’m often asked what makes a great leader.?After leading scaled teams for 30 years across 30 countries, here’s my answer:?leaders make people feel good by creating an environment that inspires them to perform at their full potential.??Within this context, I suggest you take a step back this week and ask yourself three important questions.?Repeat this at least annually and you’ll be amazed the impact it will make on your own leadership.

What is important to you?

Bret Packard

Time is the greatest treasure on earth and it’s vitally important you are investing it in what is most important to you.?Undertake an audit of your time for a week or two and it may surprise you - write down who, what and where you are investing your time with.?Then, revamp and get control of your time to ensure alignment with what you value most.?Remember, what gets focused on gets done.

What is your legacy?

When your time is expired, what impact do you want to have made on people??Be specific.?Ask yourself what you have done over the last 12 months to progress this impact.?Self-rate the progress you have made - be a tough grader.?Over the coming 12 months, what do you have planned to further accelerate the shaping of your legacy?

What are you afraid of?

When you understand what your fears are, you can acknowledge them and put them to work for you in shaping your legacy.?Everyone has fears and you are no different.?What it boils down to is whether you choose to use your fears as fuel for progressing your legacy and achieving what it most important to you.??
