DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A SUCESSFUL RECRUITER

Starting my career as a recruiter I have seen over a dozen of people leave recruitment companies; at first I thought a recruitment company is not a good place to work but as I journeyed deeper into the field of recruitment I found out that Recruiting can be a very difficult occupation but also very rewarding (which some of my colleagues call it Long suffering). To be a successful recruiter you must have some of this attributes which you possess as a human and some might be learnt on the job.
1. Relationship Building
Relationship building is the process of developing social connections. This is a fundamental business skill which is the basis for reputation, influencing, closing deals and sustaining commercial relationships. For you to be successful in recruitment you need to build a great network of individuals where you get to know them as well as hangout for lunch breaks, meetings or games as well.?Always put this at the back of your mind that “Your Network Is Your Net Worth” Porter Gale
2. Resilience
The capacity to recover quickly from difficulties is one of the greatest factor of being a good recruiter; because nothing is more disappointing to filling a role with a client and the candidate you put forward decline the offer or accept a counter offer; after weeks of shortlist/interviews only to find out you might have to start working on the role again. I tell you that feeling is terrible. As Robert Schuller, once said “Tough Times Never Last but Tough People Do”
3. Integrity?
Integrity is a key determinant in any business you set to do and in recruitment today you see a lot of recruiters talk big about what they can do and they find it hard to deliver. Some recruiting agencies use unethical models in their recruitment. Let’s bear in mind that as a recruiter you need to earn both your client and candidate’s trust at any time; they should be able to vouch for you; recommend you for businesses and be able to give feedbacks as this helps in relationship building as well.

4. Listening Skills
?Active listening, on the other hand, means you’re fully engaged. You’re asking questions and connecting dots. You’re digging deeper to gain insight into the candidate. Ultimately, you’re making sure you leave the conversation with an in-depth understanding of the candidate and their fit for the role.?
If you’re on LinkedIn, I’m sure you’re familiar with this line: “I’ve got the perfect opportunity for you with one of my clients.” But you do not know what the candidates wants just because the profile matches what you looking for doesn’t mean it’s the perfect opportunity; it is very important to know exactly what your candidate want in a role rather than assumption; this can only be achieved by active listening?
5. Time Management Skills
Successful recruiters are judicious with their time. They know how to shift priorities based on what is happening during the day. They are focused on being productive versus being busy. Email is the biggest culprit when it comes to the misuse of time. Our inboxes are full of emails that are neither important nor urgent, yet we feel the need to respond to them all. A more prudent use of time is to organize your day around activities that produce results.
Having a career in recruiting can be challenging sometimes but you know what if you have what it takes the rewards are worth it.
