Do you have what it takes to design the future of New Zealand?

Do you have what it takes to design the future of New Zealand?

New Zealand is growing. How we choose to grow - the look, feel and value of our places and communities –is in our hands.

It is time to rethink what we need from our cities and communities, to develop inspiring urban environments that enable time for play, and are enjoyable places to work.

The Government has committed to large investment in the building of whole communities for people to live and work. Phil Twyford, Minister for Housing and Urban Development has set an ambitious target of building 100,000 affordable houses for first-home buyers. But we need to think hard about how we do this to create lasting value. In addition to affordability, we have an unprecedented opportunity to develop communities that are efficient, easy to get around, intuitive to the needs of people using them, vibrant, and enhance the environment.

Anyone who has recently travelled to the UK will have noticed a number of regeneration projects across London and Manchester. The innovative thinking that has gone into urban form, places, transport and its connection with people is evident.  Manchester is filled with apartments that pay homage to the city’s industrial heritage. London is awash with walkers and cyclists with dense populations living on top of key transport nodes. Not all of the solutions developed overseas are right for New Zealand. However, there is an opportunity to think differently, to learn from what has worked in other countries and to develop urban environments that are uniquely ours. `

At GHD, we think the secret is strong collaboration between the public and private sectors. Governments and businesses also need to work closely with communities to create places that are affordable, attractive and sustainable. We believe great communities can be delivered through thoughtful urban design, great engagement with people, strong project management, innovation to identify cost efficiencies, and a willingness to work with regulators to identify solutions.

To realise this vision, we are looking for someone who is committed to delivering fantastic urban development outcomes, and who has the energy to lead and grow a team that will inspire our clients across New Zealand.

We are also seeking expressions of interest from a diverse range of professionals who are experienced in planning, urban design, placemaking, project management and who are interested in joining our rapidly growing team.
