Do you have a tripwire or a governor?

A tripwire: a trigger that automatically sets a force in motion.
A governor: a device that automatically regulates or limits speed.
When presented with an opportunity that might promise something new or exciting:
Does your tripwire go off and set you in motion?
Or does your governor turn on and start to slow you down?
One of the reasons I work so closely with Hallie Avolio is she has a tripwire.
If I suggest something or vice versa, there’s no ‘thinking about it’, we just do it.
Three weeks ago after Jam Session 007, we were on a call and discussed putting together a 5 day challenge to help people recalibrate or start their morning routine.
So we just decided to do it. No overthinking, no ‘but what ifs’.
Tomorrow night registration ends and the mini-course goes live.
Easy as that, let the tripwire go off and set a force in motion.
Course created in 3 weeks, assets are now created and we can use them over and over.
Tripwire Mindset:
LFG.
Full Send.
Let’s do it.
IDGAF.
We’ll figure it out.
I may crash and burn, but I’ll get up.
Fail forward.
‘5 second rule’ (see below).
Action from a place of power.
Do, or do not, there is no try.
I’ll make time for it because it’s important to me.
I’ll find the money because I want it.
What if I succeed?
This is exciting!
Governor Mindset:
I don’t have enough time.
I don’t have enough money.
What will they think?
Action from a place of fear.
I’m too busy.
I’ll try to make it.
What if I fail?
It’s gotta be perfect.
I gotta talk with my husband/wife.
This makes me nervous.
The governor in a car is a device that shuts off the fuel to the engine once a certain speed is reached.
The governor in your brain creates excuses once you venture outside of your comfort zone, and it’s pre-installed software.
The tripwire is not standard software in your mind, it needs to be programmed.
When an opportunity presents itself, as soon as the ‘voice’ starts trying to talk you out of something, the tripwired triggers and you explode into action.
The 5 Second Rule:
Mel Robbins talks about making a decision in 5 seconds, if you take any longer, then you’ll start to overthink it.
5.4.3.2.1. Go with your gut.
If you take any longer, your mind will start talking you out of it.
Everything is Figureoutable:
Maria Forleo wrote a book by the same title, mic drop. It’s true, everything is, if you ask the right questions.
Fight Gone Bad:
I used to a lot of Crossfit, it hurts, it makes you crosseyed, it makes you feel like you’ve been thrown into a pit of wolves.
But you learn to adapt and it makes you stronger. Trust yourself that you can adapt and put your ass on the line by putting it out there in a way that you MUST come through.
Set your tripwire to go off:
Learn to listen for the ‘voice’ that tries to talk you out of things and set your trip wire to go off when you hear it. Take action when the governer is telling you not to. Surround yourself with other people who ae decisive and take action.
If you have already signed up for the Badass Activation Challenge, fist bump for using the tripwire.
If the governor is holding you back, then turn that off and sign up right now (registration ends tomorrow).
I don’t care if you don’t sign up, just don’t let the governor hold you back if its calling you.

3 年It has become a learned action for me Simon Parsons, I agree partnering up with select people who seem to have this ability is also a great thing. I believe you must have it too maybe not fullsend yet, but inside none the less. I know if I am not keeping it active it is easy to fall back to old patterns and that is why having like minded or people better at things we are not yet good or best at important to do. This article rocks, not surprised though!
