Is Tech the Cause or the Cure?

Is Tech the Cause or the Cure?

Would you be interviewed....?

I have just been speaking to one of my expert patients, on his experience of UK healthcare.

He reported dissatisfaction with the amount of assessment repetition, misleading communication and lack of education that he had been provided surrounding his condition. This was not just in the public, but also the private health sector. I explained to him that much of the repetition, he was experiencing, was due to the poor electronic records systems currently in place. These systems would not allow for information, surrounding his condition, to be shared between his doctors, physiotherapists and surgical consultants.

I then discussed with him my mission to improve patient centered care by; empowering patients through education and access to their own health records. By moving the control of healthcare data to patients they could have immediate access to their own health care data. They would also have the ability to share their data with health professions, when required. This system would keep patients "in the loop" whilst maximizing data available for any clinician they choose to see, across the world.

He showed great interest in my ideas and began telling me story after story about how access to his own records could have helped him manage his condition better.

I was so amazed by his stories that I asked him....... "Would you sit down with me and talk about this on camera." To which he responded, "YES!"

So who else would be up for talking to me about their views surrounding access and privacy of electronic health records?

I think I may start a series of these, so open to anyone who has views that they would like to share, please comment below. Or recommend someone you know would love to get involved!
