I have a theory that the more rounded your life is, the more enjoyment you can get from it. And that includes doing things outside of work, as well as inside of work.
In a great book that I've read called the artist's way, julia Cameron, the author, explains that we're all creative beings deep down, at some level, we have a deep desire to do something creative.
Whether that's paint, draw, sculpt, write poetry, or even play a musical instrument or tread the boards on a stage.
We might have had experiences of times in our lives where we've done some of these things or that we wished we'd have done some of these things or done more of these things.
And I believe that being able to tap into this creative side can help enormously with so many other aspects of our lives.
In my own experience as a financial planner, working within a large financial institution, I'd find that I would work so many hours, that I would put my love of music to one side. I'd tell myself that I didn't have the time to play my guitar or my accordion or all of the other lovely instruments there are out there to learn how to play.
But when I thought about playing it, I'd actually feel really happy, I would feel a smile coming up over my body, or I just get this warm, fuzzy feeling, I really wanted to do it, but I never had the time, so it would always be put to one side.

Since starting my own business and understanding how important it is to build these creative elements into my life, I make that time to enjoy these past times that bring me joy, whether it's painting, which is actually a new hobby that I've learned during lockdown, or just going out into my veggie patch and digging and growing some fruit and vegetables.
It's just seeing abundance growing around me and taking something that's bare or blank, like a blank canvas or a patch of soil and sewing seeds on it, or putting down layers of paint to create something beautiful.
Funnily enough, this can be seen as the same thing as building up your own financial future.
You may start with nothing, but with careful tending to it and reviewing it and monitoring it regularly, you can grow your own financial abundance.
Within Simplicity we believe in a coaching approach to financial advice.
