Do you have SaaP? (Productized Services)

Last year, Jason realized he had to change up his leadership training and consulting business.

His business development strategy had focused on leveraging one networking association (too many eggs in one basket) and he was experiencing high fluctuation in his revenue.

Further, he had to do an immense amount of traveling for too little income. Jason hit the breaking point and decided to productize his services.

Having watched so many others launch online courses, he decided to launch an online self-study course version of his on-site program along with ongoing group coaching for recurring revenue.

Sounds pretty good, right?

Wrong.

He created and videoed the entire 6 module program (it took him months and beaucoup dollars to get this developed.) To market the program, he posted about it on his website and sent a few emails to his network.

Result: The course and the membership produced only a tiny trickle of clients ??.

Why?

The unfortunate answer is Jason didn't know why his product flopped.

As is so common with folks who jump into the productized services space after seeing other success stories, they create and develop without understanding productization and don't have a savvy, vetted, productization strategy or a proven monetization / marketing plan.

It all could have gone very differently for Jason if he had learned the success essentials for SaaP - Service as a Product.

I had this exact conversation with Tom Parker, CPA as he was working to productize some of his firm's services, Nancy Fox -The Fractional Fox. Another firm making this transition is Innovaxis Marketing lead by Sean Parnell. But many others, unlike Tom, have not thought through this strategy.
