Do you have a management training gap?

Do you have a management training gap?

Hi

Here’s the latest on management training, overwhelm and some insights from my Influence & Impact podcast.

It’s been a busy month for me delivering keynotes such as ‘Influence for Success’ for Women of Wiley, virtual confidence training for a software company, Influence & Impact in partnership with the CIOF and launching a new offer for women leaders.??

We are also seeing an increase in requests for our Be Bolder 2 day in-person workshop for teams who deliver to internal customers and want to have the confidence to set boundaries and expectations and deal with challenging stakeholders.? It’s exciting to see this version of the proven Be Bolder content evolving with 100% of attendees on the most recent 2 day workshop rating the quality of the training as 9/10 or 10/10.

The need for ongoing management training

A study by the Chartered Management Institute found that a quarter of senior managers and leaders and half of managers also claimed they have had no formal management or leadership training.? And much of the training on offer is in the form of a short course rather than ongoing learning and development.

A fifth of managers are not confident in their ability to manage and 60% say they are confident but need more development. They want to be really good at their job and are aware of the negative impact on wellbeing of poor management.

Managing and leading has always had its challenges but in the past few years the pressures on managers and leaders have grown exponentially.? As well as leading through the unprecedented experience of COVID lockdowns leaders have embraced an increased emphasis on hybrid working, mental health and wellbeing and inclusivity with very little, if any, support or training to do so.

This is just one of the reasons I’ve created Women Leading, a community where ongoing leadership development sits alongside wellbeing support.? It aims to help organisations retain women leaders by providing the practical support and learning they need and helps women leaders to lead with less overwhelm.??

Numerous studies and surveys show that women have higher stress levels than men and are more likely to experience burnout.? Analysis has put this down to a combination of unequal sharing of childcaring responsibilities and mental/social load outside of work alongside the additional mental and physical work that gender bias in the workplace creates for women.
