do you have land acknowledgement?

About a year ago I was presenting a webinar and one of the attendees emailed me angrily within the first 5 minutes of the webinar.
He was fuming that I included a land acknowledgement in my webinar. He said my “activism” doesn’t have a place in fundraising education.
I politely told him that I was unsubscribing him from my email list.
Buh Bye!
I believe that Indigenous Protocols like land acknowledgements, including elders in your conferences, and more have everything to do with fundraising. Especially fundraising that supports social justice work.
But guess what?
I’m still learning about how to do them well and how to make them meaningful. And I have a lot more work to do!
Which is why I invited the amazing Rowena Veylan, head of the New School of Fundraising to the podcast. As a fundraiser and Indengious person, she has turned her experience into training and education around Indigenous Protocols in our sector.
Listen into our conversation!
