Do you have an inquiring mind?
If you have any interest in making up your own mind about how things are going in the world you must pick up a copy of Scott Galloway’s ADRIFT – AMERICA IN 100 CHARTS. It would seem a boring approach to the country and the world, charts, but it is so enlightening I can’t begin to describe how fascinating looking at the true relationship of so many subjects actually is. The book was published in 2022, so not totally up to date, but when you deal with things for a century past in many instances the last couple of years matter little.? Galloway is a professor of marketing at NYU’s Stern School of Business and has no ax to grind…facts is facts, to risk a Martin’ism. The book and its charts deal with such normally mundane issues as who’s the world’s number one trading partner, and you see that China has replaced the US which begs the question who is the world’s go-to country? Another chart, Life Expectancy vs. Healthcare Expenditure by country. You’ll discover the US spends far more than any other country on health yet is behind Japan, Israel, France, Switzerland, Sweden, Italy, Canada, Netherlands, Portugal, U.K., and Germany and only slightly ahead of Poland in life expectancy. One wonders, is the American doc’s Mercedes payment ahead of his ‘first do no harm’? This book will jab your brain time and time again and is well worth the investment. Hundreds of charts and comments by the author offer enlightening reading.
