Do you have a hard time getting your team to do the hard things?

Do you have a hard time getting your team to do the hard things?

As a CEO, it can be incredibly challenging to get your team to?

embrace the hard, the painful, and the constant work that often comes with growth and success.?

And 2023 will be no different.

There's no magic pill or silver bullet solution to this problem, and the reality is that we're all just making it up as we go along, with limited control over the outcome.

Some leaders are unsure whether to use the carrot or the stick.

My take: neither. Be a leader by example, not an explanation.?

As leaders, we can control our example and be a source of inspiration and motivation for our team.?

Cold therapy, for example, has been a personal practice of mine for 5+ years (it has numerous benefits like reduced stress, improved circulation, and an enhanced immune system - more on that later!).

Recently, my family got into watching the show "Limitless" with Chris Hemsworth, and it's been a massive win for us.?

Both my son James and daughter Ellie have been inspired to start affirmations, positive self-talk, taking cold showers, and even considering fasting... this is bananas!

But this week, my daughter's drive to do well in her basketball and lacrosse tryouts has been eye-opening.?

This is after her 3rd day in a row in our plunge.?

Her drive to perform well is contagious and a reminder that sometimes, the best lessons are learned through example.

Said another way, the best lessons are “caught, not taught.”?

As leaders, we can't always dictate what motivates our team, but we can control the environment we create and the examples we set.?

Whether it's embracing a challenging personal practice or leading by example in your work, showing your team that you're willing to put in the hard work and effort can go a long way in inspiring them to do the same.

There is no one-size-fits-all answer to this challenge, but by leading by example and being open to new ideas, we can motivate and inspire our teams to tackle even the toughest of challenges.

How are you modeling for your team how to do hard things?

P.S. - the temperature was a cool 40 degrees in the cold plunge this morning!!
