Happy Summer Entrepreneurs and Aspiring Entrepreneurs,
I trust that you and your families are well and that you are moving forward with your business ideas, plans, and success strategies. I normally take the summer off to relax, reflect, and renew. As I worked with my clients on their summer action plans, I realized that the happiness level of individuals in general is declining, while emotions of anxiety, stress, fear, and hopelessness are rising.
Many aspiring entrepreneurs want to escape the workplace and become their own bosses because of dissatisfaction with their work environment, coworkers, superiors, subordinates, workplace ethics, bullying, office cliques, negativity, gossip, and so much more. My concern is that dissatisfaction with the workplace environment alone doesn’t substantiate the equation for successful entrepreneurship.
This issue of workplace dissatisfaction took me to a deeper conversation with my business partner (my daughter) who is pursuing her doctorate degree in industrial and organizational psychology. We pondered the topic of happiness in the workplace and the effects on morale, productivity, and ultimately an organization’s bottom line.
As entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs, I would love your feedback and perspective on this topic. What do you see as the root cause? What solutions can you offer? As entrepreneurs, have you even done an assessment to gauge the happiness level of your employees? As aspiring entrepreneurs, how do you plan to affect happiness, moral, and productivity amongst your team members?
I appreciate your feedback. Enjoy your summer and keep moving forward!
