This is why we should set goals:
- Goals give you long term VISION
- They give you short term MOTIVATION
- Goals give you FOCUS
- They give you a target to MEASURE against
- They set a FINITE END-POINT
I've had meetings with several people whom I ask about their goals. They have very good goals but there's something missing in many of them. Some have and timeline, value, they're general, etc.
Goals should be SMART
S - Specific
M - Measurable
A - Achievable
R - Relevant
T - Timed
For example: You have a goal to expand your business. This is a very vague goal. You should state in the goal if you're expanding the number of branches and name the number, say I want to expand my company to 5 branches by the end of June 2021. Where will these branches be located? Are you expanding in your city, outside your city, internationally, which countries.... Goals should be relevant and realistic - something you can reasonably achieve within your timelines and finances. What's the size of the branch? You cannot start opening branches all over the place when you've just started operating and have not broken even. The more information you put, the easier it will be for you to track the results and achieve them.
Get a Goal Buddy to hold you accountable, and help you achieve your goals and do the same for them.
