Do you HAVE to, or do you GET to?

A while back, I spent the week with Tony Robbins on his Advanced Business Mastery course.??A key reminder for me was the importance of our own story: what we tell ourselves about why we can (or cannot), do (or achieve) something in our lives.??If we have a negative or poor mind-set, then we’re simply damaging our ability to move forward.?

One individual that I admire is JK Rowling; not just for bringing us the Harry Potter stories, although we are huge fans hence the twin’s names (James & Lily, in case you were wondering whether there’s a Voldemort?and Dumbledore Norbury running around).??What I admire more is Rowling’s OWN story….

She wrote her initial Potter ideas on a napkin whilst on a delayed train from Manchester to London.??She went from being unemployed and living on state benefits to becoming a multi-millionaire in just five years.??She figured it out, built it, became it.

Despite twelve publishing houses rejecting her original manuscripts, eventually small publisher Bloomsbury gave her a chance with a small advance. Little did anyone know it would become the bestselling book series in history!?Everyone needs something to believe in, someone to believe in, and someone to believe in them.??

Her fifth book,?Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix?was released in June back in 2003, a long three years after her previous book. One book reviewer said that this book was:

?“Likely?to be considered the weakest book in the series.”?

Five million copies were sold in the first 24 hours of publication, becoming the fastest selling book ever. A true pro at?creating fans through delivery.

So, this week, whatever challenges you have in your life or business, I urge you to work on your own story, and think about the language you are using. To quote the big man (Tony Robbins, not Hagrid):?

“‘Poor’ people HAVE to, and ‘rich’ people GET to.”

Try it for yourself and see the transformation - instead of saying I HAVE to work on my strategy, I HAVE to focus on my culture, I HAVE to do the school run etc; say I GET to. It’s a very different feeling!
