Do You Have a Dream? A Vision?

Do You Have a Dream? A Vision?

Does it excite you?

I hope so.

Because without a vision, we lose our way. As the saying goes, “Without vision, people perish.”

But here’s the thing—having a vision isn’t the end of the road. It’s the beginning.

A vision on its own is like a spark. It has the potential to ignite a fire, but only if it’s nurtured, shared, and fueled with purpose and action.

You need to sell the vision.

The Missing Ingredient for Most CEOs and Business Owners

Here’s the truth: most CEOs and business owners struggle to sell their vision effectively.

Why?

  1. Lack of Clarity Many leaders aren’t crystal clear about their vision. They may have a rough idea of where they want to go, but if you can’t articulate your vision in a way that inspires, it’s not ready to be shared. Clarity is non-negotiable—it’s the foundation for everything else.
  2. Failure to Share the Vision Daily Some leaders have a great vision, but they keep it locked away in their minds. They don’t communicate it to their team regularly, assuming everyone is already on board. But here’s the reality: if you’re not sharing your vision daily, it’s fading. Your team needs constant reminders about where they’re going and why it matters.

This gap between having a vision and selling it consistently is where many leaders falter. Don’t let that be you.

Sell the Vision to Yourself

Dreams often start with excitement, but excitement alone fades. Every single day, you must remind yourself why this vision matters. Visualize it, journal about it, or speak it into existence. Whatever you do, keep your dream alive in your own mind and heart.

Sell the Vision to Your Team

If you’re a CEO or a leader, this is non-negotiable. Your team needs to know what they’re working toward and why it matters. They need to feel part of something bigger than their job descriptions. Share the vision daily. Find creative ways to remind them how their roles contribute to the bigger picture.

Sell the Vision to Your Clients

People don’t just buy products or services—they buy stories, purpose, and alignment. When clients see that your vision aligns with their needs and aspirations, they’re not just customers; they become advocates.

Sell the Vision to Your Family

Your vision doesn’t just affect your professional life; it shapes your personal life too. Share it with your spouse, your kids, your family. Let them see the fire in your eyes and understand the sacrifices you’re making to bring it to life. When they feel connected to your vision, they’re more likely to support and encourage you through the journey.

The Bottom Line

Your vision is only as powerful as your ability to communicate it. Excitement is contagious, but so is indifference. If you don’t sell your vision every day—to yourself, your team, your clients, and your family—it will lose its momentum.

So, ask yourself:

  • Does your vision excite you?
  • Are you clear about what it is?
  • Are you sharing it with others daily?

If the answer isn’t a resounding yes, it’s time to dig deeper.

Because when you truly sell the vision, you inspire belief—not just in your dream, but in the collective ability to make it a reality.

I have a clear vision of my future, and it excites me. However, patience is the hardest part and staying committed when progress feels slow can be a challenge. I also recognize the value of sharing a vision daily, but in my current line of work, doing so too openly could put you on the blacklist within the organization. That said, I’ve learned that even if you can’t always voice your vision externally, you can still nurture it internally. Staying focused, refining the vision, and aligning daily actions toward it are key.

Exactly! A leader should inspire, set the direction and give the team space to act. Controlling every step kills initiative and creativity. Of course, there will be failures along the way, but that's normal - the bigger the vision, the bigger the risk, but also the bigger the potential success. The key is to draw conclusions and adapt, not avoid mistakes at all costs.
