Do You Have a Bias Towards Action?
Amelia Earhart was a big fan of taking action. The early aviation pioneer was the first female pilot to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. Compelled to try and then try again viewed her journey this way: “The most effective way to do it, is to do it.” Born in a small town in Kansas in 1897, Amelia saw her first plane at a state fair when she was 10 years old and her dreams of great adventure began.
Ready, Player One was a sci-fi novel and then a movie by Ernest Cline about a future that allowed people to joined imagined game worlds via a virtual reality tech interface. Ernest birthed the idea of virtual reality game play. Then what happened? A 19 year old kid, Palmer Luckey, took the next step, with a nerdy bias towards action, and started to tinker. Palmer loved living in a 19-foot trailer that was permanently parked in his parent’s driveway. It felt, to him, “like living in a spaceship” and from there he launched his successful product idea, what ultimately became Occulus. Sold to Facebook for 2 billion dollars. Yeah, billion with a "B".
Torchy’s Tacos was born from the culinary mind of Michael Rypka. First launched in 2006 as a food truck in the Bouldin Creek area of Austin, Texas, Torchy’s has grown to 60 locations in and outside of the Lone Star state. MIke was convinced he could make a “damn good taco, salsa and queso.” Specializing in “excess ingredients” and goofy menu item names like the Trailer Park, Mr. Pink, the Dirty Sanchez and this month’s featured Vagabond – Mike just decided to go for it. It has worked out well.
