Do You Give In or Get To Work??
What will you do when you are pushed to the breaking point?
There is a quote from the movie Martian. Matt Damon being left on Mars, by himself, who had a metal rod stuck in his side and no way to communicate with his fellow astronauts or mission control back on Earth.
My favorite quote is at the end of the movie. Mr. Damon says, " Yes, I thought about dying, how could I not! You can either accept that fate, OR YOU CAN GET TO WORK!"
Here are the seven things that helped me keep going , when everything in me wants to give in to the fear.
If you find yourself in a situation where you want to give up, these lessons can help you, too.
1. Ignore everyone else.
It can be easy to get distracted when you see others achieving their goals easier, faster, better than you. It can make you feel inadequate and unsatisfied with your own progress. But when it comes to conquering a goal, what’s happening with others is irrelevant when it detracts from your ability to move forward.
When tackling a difficult task, you need every ounce of energy you can muster. Make sure to channel it to a place that will propel you forward.
2. Become your own biggest supporter.
Although it can be energizing to have others cheering for you or supporting you.
However, having them there is a luxury, not a requirement. This lesson allows me to turn inward and find in myself the strength and determination to keep going.
I began to encourage and high-five myself. I remind myself of "WHY" I started to begin with.
Then my fathers voice comes into my head and he says,"Its simple Dee, Who Wants It More?"
Sometimes on the road to success, you have to walk alone. If you find yourself in that position, find a way to give yourself what you need to continue.
3. Stop and appreciate the little things
It can be easy to focus all your energy on reaching a goal. But if the only thing you can see is your end destination, you’ll miss the lessons of the journey along the way. The new life lessons will provide much-needed fuel to keep going. If you are humble enough to apply them during your most challenging moments.
4. Focus on the next step
When you are struggling and the end game nowhere in sight. You can start to allow doubt or FEAR to creep into your mind. Here is where you need to remember to Keep it Simple and solve the one situation , or complete one task to gain a little bit of confidence to keep Grinding away.
By breaking your target into bite-sized pieces, you can keep yourself in motion and build momentum.
5. Throw your watch out the window
As you work on reaching your goals, stop looking at the clock. Stop measuring yourself against someone or something else. It will only serve to distract you from accomplishing your goal. Head down, work , work and don't stop until you either reach your goal or someone makes you stop.
6. Stop looking for a way out
Dr. Eric Thomas says it best, "Don't cry to quit..you are already in pain. Keep going and get that reward." This is where your "WHY" will keep you going if that "Why" is strong enough.
When your pain is only thing your mind is telling you, it is natural to want to make it go away. But when you invest time looking for a way to abort your journey, you waste precious energy that could be used to help you accomplish your goal..
"WHO WANTS IT MORE, NEVER STOP GRINDING"
7. Acknowledge your limitations
Your road to success might not look like everyone else’s. That’s OK. Everyone’s situation is different. Instead acknowledge where you are, so you can remind yourself of where you started.
My path needed to be different, and that’s OK. After applying new lessons the remaining tasks appeared less intimidating .
As you Grind towards your goals, there will be obstacles, bumps and doubt along the way. When the journey becomes more uncomfortable than what you are used to, it can be easy to throw in the towel and retreat.
My Aunt Mary told me that, "When you are striving towards something, be OK with BEING UNCOMFORTABLE"
But if you follow these lessons, you can find the strength to keep going in the midst of DOUBT and FEAR..
And when you persist, you’ll discover the reward was worth the effort.
"Are you going to give into fear, OR DO YOU GET TO WORK"
