Do You Forget What to Say in Your PowerPoint Presentation? Here's a Solution!

Do You Forget What to Say in Your PowerPoint Presentation? Here's a Solution!

I used to be the most scared person to speak in front of an audience. Just the thought of standing in front of a crowd would make me shiver. My palms would sweat, my heart would race, and I’d be terrified of forgetting what to say.

While developing communication skills to speak confidently in front of people is a journey, there’s a tool that helps ease that fear and makes the process smoother. This tool has helped me over the years, and I still use it to this day to ensure I never miss important points in my trainings or talks.

Let me introduce you to Notes in PowerPoint.

What Are Notes in PowerPoint?

The Notes feature in PowerPoint allows you to add private notes for each slide, giving you a script or reminders that only you can see. This feature has been my silent partner in presentations, guiding me through my talks and helping me stay calm and organized—without the audience knowing.

How Notes Help Overcome the Fear of Forgetting

  1. Boosts Confidence: When you know that your key talking points are just a glance away, the fear of forgetting melts away. It’s like having a secret script to rely on, making sure you stay on track and hit every key point.
  2. Keeps You Focused: When nerves kick in, losing your train of thought is common. Notes allow you to stay focused and organized, ensuring that your presentation flows seamlessly, even if you get a little flustered.
  3. Invisible to the Audience: Your audience only sees the slides while you have all your notes right there with you. It’s like a safety net that nobody knows about, helping you feel more relaxed and in control.

How to Use Notes in PowerPoint

Here’s how I personally use Notes in every presentation:

  1. Open Your PowerPoint Presentation: Find the slide where you want to add notes.
  2. Add Your Notes: At the bottom of the PowerPoint window, you’ll see an area labeled "Click to add notes". This is where I type my key points or even write full scripts when needed.
  3. Use Presenter View During Your Presentation:

How Notes Help Me Prepare for My Trainings

Even now, when I’m delivering trainings, I always prepare my notes in advance. This tool ensures I never miss out on the key points I want to emphasize, and it gives me that added confidence boost when speaking to large groups. I focus more on engaging with my audience rather than worrying about what I’ll say next.

The Notes feature has truly made presenting less stressful for me and can help anyone who struggles with stage fright or memory lapses.
