Are you or is someone you know suffering from burnout? (are you considering Quiet Quitting?)

Why is the Majority of Corporate America Suffering from burnout, and why are so many 'Quiet Quitting'?

Are you or is someone you know suffering from burnout? Trapped in a reality you don’t recognize or want anymore? I recognize what’s happening in the workplace because I experienced it myself. I felt disconnected from who I was at my core.

I had the position, power, title, money, and all the external trappings that society tells you will make you happy and means ‘you’ve made it.’ This fallacy couldn’t be farther from the truth. The further I climbed up the ladder the more disconnected from myself I became.

At one point in my role, I was Google’s biggest customer, had a global team working with the world’s largest brands, helped three startups grow to acquisition, and traveled to multiple countries and continents doing marketing in over 100 countries and 42 different languages.?

I was successful on paper yet empty inside. I decided to get off the merry-go-round and find myself. I took a colleague I mentored to lunch before leaving my last role in NYC. When I shared that I was leaving they asked me “Why? You’re at the pinnacle.” My response was, “from your eyes that may be true, but I’m ready to jump.”?

Back then, if you were to ask me if I was on my path, my immediate thought was, “on my path? I don’t even know where the road is anymore.” The saying that nothing will truly change until you get sick and tired of being sick and tired, is one hundred percent true.?

I cut the golden handcuffs and jumped into the unknown. I knew that whatever was on the other side had to be better than what I was experiencing daily continuing to do work that was soul-sedating and unfulfilling. I’d already become a life coach on my own time over nine months, evenings and weekends. Looking back, that experience was the first step to creating a new version of myself.

Today I can with gratitude say that the decision to leave the familiar and reconnect with myself, is one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life. While I remember wondering how it would all play out, I had an inner trust and knowing that somehow, I would transition into a life that was more alive and fulfilling than what I’d been putting my life force energy into for over three decades.

The wild thing is that once I surrendered and walked forward in faith, magical things lined up and opportunities appeared. The saying goes, when you step out in faith the Universe will rise up to meet you. One of the first things I did was to volunteer at AdWeek, which historically was an event that I was an attendee of. I met several interesting people; one of them was the Communications Director for the United Nations. When asked ‘what do you do?” my response was, "I just left my executive role to bring more mindful leadership into the world." His response was, "I just might need your help." The next thing I knew, I was invited to the United Nations to have tea in the Delegate’s Lounge to discuss executive leadership and related topics.

I was a guest at the United Nations when Oprah visited for the first time to launch her new series ‘Belief.’ I was invited as a 'Thought Leader' by the Millennial organization AIESEC, to attend their three-day event where millennials from over 140 countries came together at the UN in NYC to talk about leadership, life’s challenges, and how to make the world a better place for all.

For several months I traveled around speaking about millennials on radio shows, podcasts, and television on the topic of leadership and how to embrace the new generation coming into the workplace. I’d had the highest employee retention rates and highest engagement rates with global and national teams in multiple executive roles for over two decades. I even wrote a Mindful Leadership book to capture the principles that I used and that need to be in place for employees and teams to thrive and flourish in corporate work environments.

I’ve continued the journey and have a passion for helping others reconnect with themselves and what they’re meant to do with their lives. I’ve come to fully understand that everything in life is for a reason and for a season. We may not know the purpose or reason for something that we’re walking through that feels difficult, but on the other side a better and stronger version of ourselves is waiting.

Today I am still passionate about creating a better world, helping people be free, walk in their truth, and create space for more meaningful connection with themselves and one another. I host and lead corporate and team experiences using several strategies, techniques, and modalities to help individuals and teams de-stress, create more coherence, bio-hack performance, and learn how to stay connected with themselves wherever they are and whatever they’re doing.

One thing I know for sure, life is a journey and not a destination. We never fully arrive until we’re at the end of this crazy, beautiful, at times confusing experience we call life. Until that time, we can create whatever life we want for ourselves.?

I can attest to this being true having started this journey growing up with dirt roads in the country in rural Minnesota. Since then, I’ve lived in the Caribbean, Hawaii, New York City, Hollywood / Los Angeles, San Diego, Phoenix, Seattle, and other interesting destinations in between. The only barriers to doing, being, or having the life we want; are created by us in our minds.
