Do you feel refueled or exhausted after your summer holiday?

“Help! I’m trapped in a family holiday and I can’t get out!” I remember thinking while on a family camping holiday with my husband and two daughters when the girls were young. My husband and I thought trailer-camping would be fun to do with the girls and way easier than the tent-camping we would do before kids.
On this particular occasion, I believe my youngest was under 2 and my eldest was 7. Very different capabilities and interests at those ages. My husband - used to me running the mealtime and activity show at home – didn’t know what hit him when faced with the driving, the trailer set-up, the kids clamoring for his attention, and then the campfire and BBQ responsibilities,? not to mention bedtime in a little trailer with um, one official bed.. I have more than one photo in my collection of me - the exhausted Mom - wishing I could hook an IV up to the coffee pot as lifting my arm to drink it just seemed too much.
And that was on holiday.
Ever since the kids were little I’ve dreamed of those seemingly idyllic childhood summer days that I experienced and wanted that for them…. And, in truth, for me too. I’ve decided, the phrase “lazy summer days” must refer to childhood, as there’s nothing lazy about the Herculean efforts parents have to exercise to keep the kids entertained during the summer months when regular routines are gone and work responsibilities still remain.
This month’s blog post I wrote a few years ago, and I pulled it out of the archives for you.… A Summer’s Reprieve is about trying to slow down enough to capture some of those so-called “lazy days of summer.”? I hope it serves and you find some time to decompress and enjoy the short Canadian summer.
Enjoy! Susan

The Truth Behind My Struggle to Switch Off
Do you find it hard to switch off? Even during holidays? Time slips like sand through my fingers. The tiny grains are barely discernible, like seconds in a year, yet somehow, when they all come together, they’re significant. I look forward to the month I spend in my summer home every year.
I love it.
And yet, I find it difficult to slow down.
