LinkedIn can sometimes feel like a parade of people shouting about their latest amazing event – and I’m guilty of it too ??. But over the last few weeks, I've tried to share a different perspective.
Last week, I attended a fantastic event, and it wasn’t just about rubbing elbows with celebrities (though meeting Davina McCall was incredible... more on that next week!).
What truly mattered were the lessons learned, and that’s what I’m excited to share with you. This week, I had a realisation about something I’d been unconsciously blocking out.
Since perimenopause I find events much harder.
There’s more anxiety. I am more protective of my energy. I’ve less desire to be the heart and soul and more desire to make meaningful connection.
This week I went to a huge event run by my business coaches Andrew and Pete (yes in one area of my life I actually work with men - because they’re brilliant)!
I went to Atomicon, and it was my second time going. This year I loved it.
Last year it nearly broke me!
It's testament to how far I’ve come that I can even share what I’m about to. It’s not easy baring your soul but if this helps one person it’s worth it.
My experience this year is a bit of a full-circle moment. Though we can’t ever say we’re through perimenopause (and if you have a coil it’s even harder to know…IYKYK!)
But as I reflect on meeting the wonderful Davina Mccall on Tuesday, her answering my question (that’s a whole other newsletter yet to come), and me having one of the best days of my life to date…It made me realise just how hard I’d found last year and just how far I’ve come since.
You see I have struggled with one of the lesser talked about symptoms of perimenopause…paranoia. Amongst the many others!
At Atomicon 2023 paranoia triggered a panic attack (something I’d never experienced before), and I twice ended up bawling crying in my hotel room feeling completely alone. I feel grateful that even on my trickiest days of perimenopause, I’ve had the tools at hand to pull myself through.
HRT for me is a lifeline, but isn't a total panacea.
Thankfully the tools I use with my clients, of which Positive Intelligence is a key one, mean that even on the hardest days I can pull myself through, so that when my hormone triggered brain is lying to me about my experiences, I can get myself to a place where I can keep going and even get myself back to the true me.
And so as I reflect on my 2024 experience being one of the best days of my life, I can’t help but see how far I’ve come.
And how that journey powers me on my mission to help as many women as I can to not give up.
To not give up on themselves.
To not give up on their careers.
To not give up on all that amazing talent and potential that they need to share with the world because of the lie of their hormones.
Davina McCall told me that she almost quit her job because of menopause, and what a loss that would have been for all of us.
Several women at Atomicon came and shared with me that they actually did quit their corporate careers because of it too, and they didn’t know why at the time.
So if you’re struggling and feeling ready to throw it all in.
If your mind is working against you and telling you you’re not good enough, you’ve no confidence, you might as well stack shelves in Tesco…Please just drop me a message on LinkedIn
You are NOT alone.
Your true amazing self is still in there, I’ll help you find her again.

THE CONFIDENCE PARADOX
At the Atomicon event, Andrew and Pete talked about the confidence paradox - we hold ourselves back from doing a big thing because we don’t feel confident enough.
We do the thing and then feel amazing and realise of course we can do it!!So if we can tap into how we’ll feel when we’ve done it, then we’ll feel more equipped.
So what can you do?
Remember you’ve done a million different challenges before and managed them. And the power of visualisation…imagine how will I feel when I’ve done it will help.
And sometimes we just have to say yes and work it out!!
??Tip of the week??
Jen Gottlieb was one of my top speakers at this year's Atomicon - she may be the best speaker I’ve ever seen.
She had so many powerful takeaways but I think this one was my fave…Embrace being a beginner.
We can be so hard on ourselves for not being good enough at something, even if we’ve never done it before.
How can we be good straight away?!
She shared a story of a comedy club in her neighbourhood where she knows the owner. He rang her and said you better get down here, Jerry Seinfeld is going on.
She rushed down and couldn’t wait to see him. She watched him falter through some jokes, lose his nerve a bit, pick up his notebook and read out jokes.
She was thinking what on earth? One of the biggest comedians in the world is this bad? Then she realised…he was trying out new material and was totally ok with being rubbish and with being a "beginner". Because he was learning what worked and what didn’t. What needed more work.
He had a beginners mindset.
Where in your life could you use this?
Might help with that confidence paradox don’t ya think?!
