Do You Even Share Your Knowledge?

Let me share a moment that sparked something meaningful for me recently. We welcomed Jalyle Taylor, SHRM-CP (He/ Him) to our Sourcing Team, and in his introduction, he mentioned his favorite movie, X-Men 3 The Last Stand. While I’m a fan of the franchise, my personal favorite is Logan, and though that might stir some debate on whether it belongs in the X-Men franchise or is a standalone movie, I will leave that for you to discuss. What truly struck me wasn’t just the film choice, but a thought it sparked, from my favorite Marvel movie, which is the original Spider-Man.

With great knowledge comes great responsibility?

There’s a line in Spider-Man that has always stayed with me: "With great power comes great responsibility." But as I reflect on my own career, I believe there’s another truth that is often overlook: With great knowledge comes great responsibility.

?

When we share what we know, we’re not just helping someone else grow — we’re ensuring the future success of our teams

In the workplace, that responsibility manifests as mentorship, peer teaching, and sharing institutional knowledge. We all have the power to guide others, to ensure that the skills and insights we’ve gained don’t end with us. When we share what we know, we’re not just helping someone else grow — we’re ensuring the future success of our teams, our organizations, and even our industries.

?

The value of this kind of knowledge transfer goes beyond checking a box. If we cling too tightly to our knowledge, thinking it makes us indispensable, we risk stagnating. But when we willingly teach and mentor, we position ourselves as trusted experts. People begin to seek us out, not just for what we know, but for how we’ve helped them thrive.

The ripple effect of sharing what we know can transform careers, departments, and businesses.?

Knowledge shouldn’t be guarded; it should be shared. When we seize moments to teach, guide, and offer best practices, we don’t just strengthen the individual — we strengthen the entire team. The ripple effect of sharing what we know can transform careers, departments, and businesses.

Make a conscious effort to pass along what you’ve learned

I challenge you: share your knowledge today. Whether it’s guiding a colleague, mentoring a newcomer, or even answering questions about your field, make a conscious effort to pass along what you’ve learned. It’s not just about leaving an impact — it’s about helping others succeed and creating a legacy of continuous learning.

?

With great knowledge comes great responsibility. And, ultimately, great reward in watching others grow because of the wisdom you shared.
