It always gets me fired up when I see an Influencer complaining about a conversation with a brand around money.?
Honestly, I just genuinely hate complainers. Why waste your time and energy like that? I just don't get it.
Most of the time the Influencer is seemingly offended by the original inbound offer from a brand/agency. Or perhaps the Influencer asked for a price that was way above what the agency's budget was and they were told no.?
What those influencers do is take to social media to complain. Not your best choice. Everyone is watching and honestly, it says more about you than anything.?
Here's what you can do instead of complaining :?
- Get over yourself and move on. Stop wasting a minute on a brand opportunity where you're not aligned. Put that energy instead into finding that needle in the haystack. In the words of a one Ariana Grande, Thank you, next. ?
- Ask nicely what budget flexibility the agency has for this campaign. ?This is the heart of negotiation. This is what it's all about! Get into it. Flex that muscle. ?
- Go for a walk and remind yourself, it's not personal. You don't know the metrics the brand used to get to their rate. ?
- If you're ultimately not chosen for the campaign, ask the brand for any feedback what influenced who they chose on the campaign. I'll be honest, this takes guts but it's really great feedback if you can get it.? ?
- Get better at reading the room. You can NOT expect to get paid a different amount, more than you're worth based on your engagement and follower count. Survey 20 people who have a similar account and following size to get a range of rates. You might be wildly out of the bell curve, so to speak, of what the market can bear. What you think you deserve might not be close to being aligned with what brands think.? ?
- Channel that rage into creating more great, quality content that will engage your following so that next time, it's a hell yes from the brand to hire you.
Until next time. Thanks for being here.?
