Do you believe the lies you tell yourself about yourself?

Do you believe the lies you tell yourself about yourself?

Negative self-talk is one of the most harmful things we do to ourselves. We treat ourselves meaner than we would ever treat someone else – definitely meaner than we would ever treat anyone we loved.

Yet, we seem to think that it’s OK. It’s how we seem to think we motivate ourselves. But do we really? End up motivating ourselves?

Or do we do the opposite and keep ourselves from achieving and succeeding? One little mistake and it’s ruined, and we’ve proven how untrustworthy and incapable we are of doing the thing we set out to do so we might as well just give up and save ourselves the time, effort, and embarrassment.

It happens so fast!

That’s because that negative self-talk has built neuron superhighways in our brains. As Dr. Joe Dispenza loves to say, “Neurons that fire together, wire together.” And we’ve strung so many neurons together and tied those neurons together with the toughest knots we’ll ever see. Undoing those knots will take time, practice, and a WHOLE LOT of grace.

Trust me, I know. Still untying a bunch of those neural knots myself.

That negative self-talk is nothing but lies. Yes, there may have been a grain of truth at one point, but we’ve layered on meanings and hyperbole that have blown it all out of proportion and attached unrealistic expectations that no human being could live up to.

Yet we expect ourselves to live up to it.

It’s like how a grain of sand is turned into a beautiful pearl by an oyster, but what our negative self-talk is creating is anything but beautiful.

If you have negative self-talk, it’s also one of the easiest ways to identify mental, emotional, and energy blocks that need to be shifted and removed. It’s not just about trying to tell yourself the opposite of what you’ve been telling yourself. You have to actually uncover that original grain of sand.

There’s too much meaning in the negative self-talk to simply reverse it. You have to pull back each layer because you have to counter each nuance that has turned something you did into the meaning of who you are.

The first step is to name it and release it. To shed light on it so that you can be aware and begin to do the work.

Tomorrow, I’ll be talking about identifying and releasing the blocks at the heart of your negative self-talk. I’d love for you to join me. If you can’t make the live event, please register to watch the recording on your own time.

Great article Crystal Thies ..... Pastor Joel Osteen talks about this quite a bit as well, don't believe everything you say about yourself. I am also a volunteer coach for our local high school shooting team, and negative self talk is something we fight all the time...its tough to convince the kids that they DONT have to react a certain way. ??
