Do you or any of your team feel stressed, burned out, or disengaged at work?

Do you or any of your team feel stressed, burned out, or disengaged at work?

If so I am so sorry to hear this.

It’s time for a conversation!

Gallup’s recent State of the Global Workplace Report highlighted that workplace disengagement is a widespread problem.

  • 77% of employees globally are disengaged
  • 70% of managers globally are disengaged

What do you think contributes to workplace disengagement?

It certainly includes stress created by pressure to be a high perfomer within fast-changing conditions such as orgnanisational restructuring as well as interpersonal conflict.

What’s interesting is that Gallup found that.....

70% of the variance in team engagement is determined solely by the leader.

Great news……if not surprising……

That Gallup’s report has confirmed

If you’re highly engaged as a leader……

?? You perform better

?? Your team members are more engaged, and perform better?

?? The entire business benefits — significantly improving productivity, sales, and profitability.

High-engagement sees:

  • a 13% boost in productivity
  • a 17% increase in sales
  • a 23% rise in profitability?

This is bound to increase retention and staff satisfaction?!

As a leader……

Managing stress, avoiding burnout, and staying engaged is crucial not only for your well-being….

Also for the effectiveness of your team.?

However……

This can feel easier said than done?!?

I know I have been there!

Until I decided enough was enough!?

Time for me to change?

Not to tolerate it any more?

To choose differently.

To learn how to let go off the perfectionism, the people pleasing....

Work in progress......!

I have learnt the hard way….

I don’t want you to do so too…

Here are some of strategies I have used that might help you stay balanced and engaged:

1. Prioritise Self-Care

??? Physical Health: Regular exercise, a balanced diet, and sufficient sleep are essential.

???♂? Mental Health: Practice mindfulness, meditation, or other relaxation techniques to manage stress.

? Boundaries: Set clear work-life boundaries to ensure you have time to recharge outside of work.

??? Time out: Make sure you book your leave and do what you love to regroup and recharge.

?? After all if we don’t prioritise our self-care how we we look after others

2. Delegate Effectively

?? Empower Your Team:? Trust your team with responsibilities, delegate which reduces your workload and helps them grow.

?? Avoid Micro-managing: Give clear instructions, then allow your team to take ownership of their tasks.

3. Time Management?

?? Prioritise Tasks: Focus on high-impact activities and delegate or defer less critical tasks.

?? Use Tools: Leverage time management tools and techniques.

?? Breaks: Schedule regular breaks to prevent burnout and maintain productivity.

4. Foster a Positive Work Environment

???Open Communication: Create an environment where your team feels comfortable sharing ideas and concerns.

?? Recognition: Acknowledge and celebrate team achievements to keep morale high.

??? Support: Provide resources and support to help your team manage their workload.

5. Continuous Learning and Development

?? Stay Curious: Engage in continuous learning to keep your work interesting and stay motivated.

??? Skill Development: Pursue leadership training and development to improve your skills and stay engaged in your role.

6. Seek Feedback and Reflect

??? Regular Check-ins: Hold regular one-on-ones with your team to receive feedback and address issues early.

?? Self-Reflection: Reflect on your performance and stress levels regularly to make adjustments before burnout occurs.

7. Build a Support Network

?? Peer Support: Connect with other leaders to share experiences and advice.

?? Mentorship: Seek out mentors who can offer guidance and perspective.

??? Professional Help: Don’t hesitate to seek professional counseling or coaching if needed.

8. Embrace Flexibility

?? Adaptability: Be open to change and willing to adjust your approach as needed.

?? Work-Life Integration: Find ways to integrate your work and personal life in a manner that suits you.

9. Focus on Purpose

??? Reconnect with your ‘Why’: Regularly remind yourself of the purpose behind your work and the impact you want to make.

??? Inspire Your Team: Help your team connect their work to a larger purpose, which can keep both you and them engaged.

10. Monitor Warning Signs

??? Self-Awareness: Pay attention to signs of stress, burnout, or disengagement in yourself and take proactive steps to address them.

???? Early Intervention:? If you notice these signs, take immediate action, such as taking a break, seeking support, or reprioritising your workload.

?? I appreciate there is a long list here so…..

......I don’t want you to feel overwhelmed and burnout reading it….!

?? Pick 1 that resonates and start from there!?

Implementing these strategies can help you maintain balance, avoid burnout, and stay engaged in your leadership role.?

Remember, taking care of yourself is essential to effectively leading and supporting your team.

Which strategy as you going to start with??

Love to hear!?

Let’s banish burnout together!! ??

Take care

This made me smile deep within, Thank you Dr Lizzy Bernthal for sharing your expertise. My team members have told me that they have never before gotten so much work done without feeling stressed or burnt out. In fact, they say they now have to remind themselves to stop working because they love it so much. And now I am the one reminding them to be mindful and go for walks in nature, go climbing or play with their dogs!

Hi Lizzy, Thank you for sharing these important insights. It's disheartening to see such high levels of disengagement and burnout, but your emphasis on proactive strategies is truly encouraging.
